FIC PRESENTS THE BEST FILM AWARDS AND ANNOUNCES ITS SIXTH FESTIVAL FOR 2010

On the night of Saturday August 29th, the cinema festivity that took place in Monterrey during the 5th Monterrey International Film Festival ended with the announcement of the winners of the Official Selection in competition.

During the closing ceremony in the Teatro de las Artes, the “Cabrito de Plata” was presented to the winners in various categories.

The Best Nuevo Leon Short Film went to Princesa en La Torre, directed by Cristóbal Juárez, who together with the statue received 16mm Kodak material, 50% in post production services by Labofilms and a one-year membership to Videodromo.

The director Tao, with his film El Día won the award to best feature film from Nuevo León, and together with the Cabrito de Plata received 35mm Kodak material, a one-year membership in Videodromo, the Rogelio A. González award presented by the Museo del Vidrio and handcrafted by Vitro Cristal, and a prize of $25,000 pesos offered by the Sada Melo family.

Three Wise Men directed by Mika Kaurismak was awarded best feature fiction film and the Dutch filmmaker Coco Schrijber with Bloody Mondays & Strawberry Pies received the award to best feature documentary film.

The Best Mexican Short Film award was presented to Spital Zurich by Miguel Múzquiz; the best animated short film was went to Milovan Circus from the Belgian filmmaker Gerardo Infuso. My Mom has a Long Shadow received the best short film award for fiction and the winner of the documentary short film was Vivid Dreams, Looking for Arthur C. Clarke, of Italian filmmaker Stefano Rebechi.

It is interesting to note that the Jury Award presented to Three Wise Men coincided with the Audience Award that also selected the Finish film.

After the awards were presented to the winners, Juan Manuel González, the Festival’s Director, made the official announcement the 6th Monterrey International Film Festival in 2010 where Mexico was selected as guest country honoring the Bicentennial of its Independence and Centennial of the Mexican Revolution, with a program that will include a number of activities and new sections, and that will take place from August 20th to the 28th next year.

 

Upon this announcement the Mariachi went on stage and performed the musical numbers “El Viajero” and “Mexico Lindo y Querido” which were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience who sang along.

To conclude the event, Doctor Romeo Flores Caballero, President of the State Council for the Culture and Arts of Nuevo León (Conarte) thanked the public that attended each screening and urged for the continuity of the Festival.

Afterwards, a closing party was held in the Nave Carpintería of Parque Fundidora with live music, wine and canapés.
