The Monterrey International Film Festival has become one of the most important cultural events in Mexico. Founded in 2000 as the Voladero International Film and Video Festival, it has shown more than a thousand films from all five continents, not only promoting film culture in Monterrey but also bringing together the viewpoints of a great many filmmakers that come together in Monterrey each year.
The sixth Monterrey International Film Festival will be held from August 20th to the 29th 2010, with the support of the Nuevo León Council for the Arts, the National Council for Cultura and the Arts, the Nuevo Leon Filmmakers Guild, and a large number of sponsors that year after year support this event.
The festival is conformed by a varied and diverse program: The Official Selection of Short and Feature Films in Competition, showcases of Mexican, Latin American and International films, guest films and premieres, lectures, and other complementary events such as the Film For a Better World showcase for documentary films dealing with relevant social topics that affect the filmmakers' communities.
Each year the festival invites a guest country with an important cinematographic tradition. This year, commemorating Mexico's 200th anniversary, the festival has decided to dedicate the festival to our country showcasing over 110 years of filmmaking.
The Festival anticipates an important national and international press coverage and media presence for its 2010 edition. Local audiences have shown a strong response to the event and we also expect to receive audiences from other Mexican states and abroad.
The Cabrito de Plata - the Festival's official award- is announced at the Awards Ceremony for winners of Best Feature Fiction Film, Best Feature Documentary film, Best Mexican Fiction Feature Film, Best Mexican Documentary Feature Film, Best screenplay, Best cinematography, Best acting, Best editing and Best sound for a feature film, Best fiction, documentary and animation short films, best Nuevo León short and feature films, and best Mexican short film. |
