CALL FOR ENTRIES:


With the purpose of promoting music and visual arts, the Visual Arts School of the Nuevo León Autonomous University and the Monterrey International Film Festival open its call for entries to participate in the First 24 hour Music... and Action! Video clip Production Rally. Enter www.myspace.com/rallymusicayaccion where you will find five (5) songs from five (5) local rock bands, chose one to make your visual proposal for a Video clip. You can participate with only one proposal per song and up to five (5) proposals in total.

THE CALL FOR ENTRIES IS OPEN FROM FEBRUARY 25TH THROUGH MAY 30, 2008.

The rally has two phases:

PHASE 1: Call for entries to register the projects, which must include:

• Conceptual idea and director’s proposal
• List of shots (consider that 30 edited shots will be required)
• Production breakdown
• Shooting schedule
• Storyboard
• Crew team for the project (no more than 8) and positions.
• The producer will be responsible for the team and project
• Producer’s and director’s résumé (experience in video clip production is not necessary)
• Complete the registration form (attached bellow)

Idea concepts must meet the following requisites:

1. Tell a story
2. Include at least 2 actors/models
3. A minimum of 3 and maximum of 5 locations, day and night sequences, exterior and interiors.
4. No animation or stopmotion projects will be accepted.
5.
Animation effects can be used over the images recorded during the rally, but this animation must be recorded simultaneously.

Submit original and three copies of the project, including a CD with digital and editable information, to the Visual Arts School care of:

Once the package has been sent, report the name of the courier service and package number via e-mail for a better control of the registered projects. A jury of experts including a Visual Arts School professor, a representative of the Monterrey International Film Festival, and one representative from each band will select five (5) finalist teams and two (2) substitute teams which will move on to the next phase. Participants will be notified of the selection in a timely manner.

The filmmakers for the five video clips must agree on transferring the video clip’s rights to the musical band’s agent to promote in video programs and for the band’s promotional purposes.

In order to move on to the next phase, the selected teams must accept the rally’s conditions. If a team doesn’t accept such conditions, one of the substitute teams will be selected.

PHASE 2:

The second phase consists on the Video clips’ production, which will be filmed during the 4th Monterrey International Film Festival that will be held from August 15th through the 23rd, 2008 in the city of Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. Non-local teams must cover their own transportation expenses to Monterrey and accommodations, and all participating teams must coordinate their own transportation during the rally. A maximum of 2 vehicles (SUVs or Mini-Vans) per team are allowed. The teams cannot receive any type of help during filming and post-production from people outside the team, nor can they use their own nor borrowed equipment not furnished by the organizers. Each team member must cover exclusively one crew position. Actors and locations will be provided by the organizers based on the production breakdown specified in the original project. The organizers will also provide the following camera, stage and lighting materials:

Equipment:

1 HDV Camera
1 Tripod
1 Tungsten lighting kit
4 HDV cassettes
Video cables and extension power cords

Props and wardrobe will be provided by each production team.

Two hours before the rally’s start, the team must have a meeting to design and organize the production. The organizer committee will provide a city map and addresses of the locations selected for filming. All filming must be done at these locations. Each team must leave the location in the same condition it was received; if not, they will be disqualified.

The teams cannot omit, change or add any location or scene.

Each team will receive three labeled and numbered Mini-DV cassettes. The recording format must be HDV. Each team will also receive a cassette for their master. At the end of the rally each team must submit their four cassettes.

Each team will have a MACINTOSH editing station with FINAL CUT PRO, AFTEREFFECTS and FLASH programs, for post-production.

Editing rules are as follows: :

1. The video clip must have at least 30 editions (cuts)
2. Only the pre-installed software in the equipment can be used. No additional software or plug-ins are allowed.
3. There will be an open screening of the five video clips on the following day after submitting the projects and the awards will be announced at the Festival’s closing ceremony.

AWARDS:
Se entregarán 3 premios, que podrán ser recibidos por equipos distintos o por el mismo equipo.

1. Music.... And Action! Award. Will be given to the first team to submit its project completely finished.
2. Audience Award. During the video clip screening the audience will receive voting ballots to select the best video clip.
3. Jury Award. A specialized jury will screen the Rally’s video clips and select a winner.

All awards will be announced at the Festival’s closing ceremony.

Any situation unforeseen in this call for entries will be resolved by the Organizing Committee of the Festival.
The jury’s decision is indisputable.
The participation in this call for entries means total acceptance of the rules.
