MONTERREY INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
CALL FOR ENTRIES 2010
February 1st 2010 - May 28th 2010
The Monterrey International Film Festival is proud to present, its CALL FOR ENTRIES for filmmakers from all around the world to participate with their films in its 2010 edition, which will take place from August 20st to 28th, in Monterrey, Mexico.
The categories are as follows:
1. OFFICIAL SELECTION: FEATURE FILMS IN COMPETITION
For feature length films shot in film or video with a running time over 75 minutes, that have been finished or premiered after January 1st 2009. The only accepted genres are FICTION and DOCUMENTARY. All themes and nationalities are accepted.
The selected films will be in competition for the following Awards:

BEST DIRECTOR

AUDIENCE AWARD
A committee of specialists will conform the Official Selection from among the films registered to participate through this call for entries or by invitation from the festival programmers. The Official Selection will be made up of TEN Feature Fiction films and TEN Feature Documentary Films in competition, of which five will be Mexican in each category, to screen during the Festival. From this selection, the Jury shall decide which films will receive awards during the Closing Night Ceremony.
The winning films or filmmakers will receive the Festival's Official Award ÒCABRITO DE PLATAÓ, and the prizes that the sponsors give to each category.
The jury has the right to give Special Mentions.
2. OFFICIAL SELECTION: SHORT FILMS IN COMPETITION
Open to short films shot on film or video with a running time of less than 30 minutes and more than 60 seconds. They must have been produced after January 1st 2009. All themes and nationalities are accepted.
There are three categories: FICTION, DOCUMENTARY and ANIMATION. A Selection Committee will choose those films that will be part of the Official Selection, from which the jury will award the films and their filmmakers.
There will be only one award for each category
BEST FICTION SHORT FILM
BEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT FILM
BEST ANIMATED SHORT FILM
The winning filmmakers will receive the Festival's Official Award CABRITO DE PLATA, and the prizes that the sponsors give to each category.
The jury has the right to give Special Mentions or to declare any category deserted.
3. OFFICIAL SELECTION: FROM BORDER TO BORDER, MEXICAN SHORT FILMS IN COMPETITION
Open to MEXICAN short films shot on film or video with a running time of less than 30 minutes and more than 60 seconds. They must have been produced after January 1st 2009. All themes are accepted.
A Selection Committee will choose those films that will be part of the Official Selection, from which the jury will award the films and their filmmakers.
There will be only one category
BEST MEXICAN SHORT FILM
The winning filmmakers will receive the Festival's Official Award ÒCABRITO DE PLATAÓ, and the prizes that the sponsors give to each category.
The jury has the right to give Special Mentions or to declare any category deserted.
Participants may register their films for the OFFICIAL SELECTION OF SHORT FILMS IN COMPETITION, by filling out the appropriate form. The selection committee will place the film in the category that is considered most fitting for the festival programming.
FICTION, ANIMATED and DOCUMENTARY short films may be registered, but there will only be one award.
4. OFFICIAL SELECTION: NUEVO LEON FEATURE FILMS IN COMPETITION
Open to feature fiction, documentary or animated films, without any thematic restriction and over 65 minutes in length, produced after January 1st 2008. Films must comply with the following:
a) At least two of the following: director, producer or screenwriter, must be of the State of Nuevo Leon or have been residents since 2006. Residence must be proven with documents.
b) At least 25% of its production capital must have come from public or private funds from the State of Nuevo Leon.
The filmmakers can submit their works in this category and the FEATURE FILM COMPETITION simultaneously, but they must submit the film to each category separately, with a separate registration form for each. The Festival's Selection Committee can decide, in any case, where, when and in which category the film will be screened.
Only feature FICTION, DOCUMENTARY and ANIMATED films can be submitted in this category. Nevertheless, the prize will be given to only one film without a genre restriction. The winner shall receive the Cabrito de Plata Award as well as the prizes given by the sponsors.
This category will be conformed by a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 7 films.
5. OFFICIAL SELECTION: NUEVO LEON SHORT FILMS IN COMPETITION
Open to short films shot on film or video with a running time of less than 30 minutes and more than 60 seconds. They must have been produced after January 1st 2009. This section is reserved only for filmmakers that were born in the State of Nuevo Leon, Mexico or that have been residents since 2006. All filmmakers in this category must include proof of residence. There are no thematic restrictions.
The participants will be competing for the CABRITO DE PLATA for
BEST NUEVO LEîN SHORT FILM.
Films can participate in this category and the SHORT FILM COMPETITION or FROM BORDER TO BORDER MEXICAN SHORT FILMS IN COMPETITION simultaneously, but they must submit the film to each category filling out the appropriate form for each. The Festival's Selection Committee can decide, in any case, where, when and in which category the film will be screened.
A Selection Committee will curate the Nuevo Le—n Short Films in Competition that will be screened during the Festival.
6. OFFICIAL SELECTION: OUT OF COMPETITION: FILM FOR A BETTER MEXICO
Open to short, mid-length and feature documentary films shot on film or video to participate in this non-competitive showcase dedicated to films with social relevance for the community in which the filmmaker is immersed. There is no restriction on theme. ALL FILMS IN THIS CATEGORY MUST BE MEXICAN. The objective of this showcase is to highlight the filmmaker's part in society as voice and agent of change of his/her community and culture.
Films in this category must have been produced after January 1st 2009.
SUBMISSIONS
DEADLINE FOR ALL SUBMISSIONS: MAY 28th 2010.
Material can be delivered personally, by ordinary mail or courier service to the office of the Monterrey International Film Festival. For national and international mailings, date of post-stamp seal will be considered as long as the package was sent before the deadline date.
For traditional mailings, we recommend taking your time: From North America, South America and Europe: less than a month; Asia, Middle East, Africa and Oceania, a month and a half.
We can only confirm the reception of the material by e-mail. We're sorry we can't do it by any other means.
SUBMISSION PROCESS
The submission form has been simplified for the convenience of the submitter. Follow these steps:
1.- It is necessary to fill in the submission form (reachable by clicking here or in the quick link menu of the Festival's web page), were you will be asked for your information.
2.- Once you have introduced the required information and checked that it is correct, click SEND. A tracking number will be given to you. From here after, the data can't be edited.
3.- At the same time, the system will send you the form in html text through e-mail.
4.- Print the form that was sent to your e-mail, and sign it. (Print the e-mail.)
5.- Attach this document to the rest of the submission material:
Two screeners of the film in DVD (PAL or NTSC), clearly labelled with the original title of the film, title in Spanish or English, duration, original format, name, telephone and e-mail.
Electronic Press Kit in CD.
Letter from the distributor or producer that certifies the full clearance of exhibition rights and that guarantees a high quality screening copy of the film if selected.

Notes:
PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY
THERE IS NO ENTRY FEE FOR ANY CATEGORY OR NATIONALITY.
Participants may submit as many films as they want. Yet, each one of them must be submitted on separate DVD's and submission forms although they can be sent in one package.
International shippings must be labeled exactly as follows: ÒNO COMMERCIAL VALUE / SIN VALOR COMERCIAL. FOR CULTURAL TEMPORAL EXHIBITION ONLY / PARA EXHIBICIîN CULTURAL TEMPORAL òNICAMENTE.Ó Declare a maximum custom value of $5 USD. All material that generates any sort of custom taxes will not be recovered by the Festival's office.
We strongly suggest not sending the DVD's on fibre paper envelopes since they're liable to be damaged or broken. Use bubble pack instead.
Filmmakers whose films have been selected will be notified at the earliest convenience and later published on the Festival's website. Once a filmmaker/distributor has accepted the Festival's Selection, it is not possible to withdraw a film.
Submitting a film means accepting all requirements of this call for entries.
The decision of the jury is unappealable.
Any eventuality not considered in this call for entries will be solved by inappealable judgment by the Festival's Committee.
Submitting and/or sending the film during the call for entries does not guarantee its selection. The film will be officially selected only if the Programming staff notifies it personally to the submitter.
This call for entries is edited in English and Spanish. For any doubts, the reference text will be the Spanish version.
